Call for Tutorials Proposals

2014 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (IEEE BigData 2014)
October 27-30, 2014, Washington DC, USA

Context and scope
The Program Committees of the 2014 IEEE International Conference on Big
Data (IEEE BigData 2014) invite proposals for Tutorials with the aim of
offering a high-quality tutorial program providing attendees the
opportunity to learn from and to interact with internationally recognized
experts in the most popular areas Big Data.
IEEE BigData 2014  tutorials are intended to cover a wide range of topics
of interest to the Big Data community. The tutorials chairs encourages
proposals for half-day (between three and four hours) tutorials with broad
applicability and of interest to a large fraction of the IEEE Big Data 2014
attendees.

Proposals for the following areas (as well as others) are solicited:
1. Big Data Foundations
2. Big Data Infrastructure
3. Big Data Management
4. Big Data Search and Mining
5. Big Data Security & Privacy
6. Big Data Applications

tutorials topics.  Prospective tutorials organizers are encouraged to
contact tutorial chairs for feedback.

Guidelines for Tutorials Proposals
Prospective tutorials organizers are urged to take great care in preparing
the proposal containing the following sections:
1. Name and contact information of tutorial representative.
2. Tutorial Title and abstract in text format (250-word maximum)
3. Duration (2 hours or 4 hours).
4. A detailed description of the proposed tutorial (2 pages maximum) with
the following sections:
• Tutorial goals and subtopic – specifically how attendees will benefit;
• Why the topic is relevant to IEEE Big Data 2014 attendees;
• Targeted audience (researchers, students, developers, practitioners, etc.)
• Content level (% beginner, % intermediate, % advanced)
• Audience prerequisites;
• General description of tutorial content;
• If your presenters are from different institutions, how you will ensure
cohesive tutorial content;
5. Detailed outline of the tutorial (1 page maximum in outline form). No
hand-on for this first edition.
6. Curriculum Vitae for each presenter (2-pages maximum each). Make sure
this includes a list of short courses the presenter has taught.
7. A statement agreeing to the release of the notes on the IEEE Big Data
2014 tutorial digital media.

Tutorial submissions will be reviewed by the IEEE BigData 2014  tutorials
chairs, which will consider among other factors:
1. Appropriateness for the IEEE BigData 2014 audience and appropriateness
for a tutorial (timeliness of the topic and potential audience appeal).
2. Quality of the tutorial proposal.
3. Presentation history and teaching/speaking experience of the presenters
and the team/institution that is giving support.

Honoraria
2 hours tutorial : US$350
4 hours tutorial: US$700

Important Dates
September 20, 2014: Tutorial proposal submission due
September 25, 2014: Notification to tutorial proposers  (Tutorial
submissions may be conditionally accepted, pending certain modifications
recommended by the tutorial chairs. You will be required to supply copies
of your viewgraphs some weeks before the conference).
