We are excited to announce that FOIS’s Early Career Symposium is returning during the FOIS 2025 conference in Catania, Sicily. The symposium offers early career researchers an excellent chance to get a foothold in the field. Please consider applying yourself, or sharing the announcement with others who may want to benefit. Early Career Symposium

The Early Career Symposium (ECS) is an event dedicated to PhD students and early career researchers to present their work and gain insights from experienced researchers and industry professionals, as   it enables participants to discuss research directions, ideas, methods, and (possibly) results. The ECS also provides an opportunity for guidance on professional,academic lives and future perspectives,  and facilitates networking within the formal ontology and information systems’ research community.
The symposium covers the same topics of interest as the main conference and is primarily directed at PhD students.

FORMAT
The ECS will be held on-site during the FOIS 2025 conference and will include:

  *   Mentoring Lunch: ECS participants will be paired with senior researchers who will offer feedback on their work and provide academic or professional advice.
  *   Fast-Talk Session: Participants will have the opportunity to advertise their work in a 5-minute speech to the conference’s main track general audience.
  *   Poster Session: A traditional format where participants can display and discuss their research in more detail.

The ECS offers a unique occasion for the next generation of FOIS researchers to network and advance their careers.

IMPORTANT DATES

  *   Submission deadline: 30 March 2025
  *   Notification of acceptance: 19 May 2025

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
To participate in the ECS, candidates need to submit a summary of their research project, limited to 5 pages, with at most 3 content pages and 2 reference pages. These summaries will be published as poster papers in the CEUR-WS FOIS proceedings. Submissions must adhere to the 1-column CEURART style, with templates available in both LaTeX<https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/template-for-submissions-to-ceur-workshop-proceedings-ceur-ws-dot-org/wqyfdgftmcfw> and Word <http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip> formats.
Candidates must also submit an updated version of their curriculum vitae.
