We are excited to invite you to learn about the latest developments in the preparations of the International Conference On Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS) 2025, to be held in Catania from the 8th to the 12th of september.

We have for you:

  * The early announcement of two conference keynotes
  * A tentative list of JOWO workshops
  * A reminder of the Call for Papers for the FOIS 2025 main track

We are happy to announce that the FOIS organization committee has already secured two keynote speakers. Prof. Dr. Sabina Leonelli from the TUM School of Scoail Sciences and Technology in Germany will be delivering a keynote on Bringing Humans Into Ontologies and Prof. Dr. Sören Auer will treat us with his note Towards agentic AI – Neuro-symbolic organization of research contributions with knowledge graphs and large language models. More information about the keynotes will be shared in the near future, so stay tuned for our updates.

A tentative list of JOWO workshops is now known, and a call for workshop papers may be expected soon. Organized by communities within the community, these workshops offer not only the chance to learn about and show the latest work, but also the opportunity to be inspired – and perhaps if you do your best be admired – by some of the brightest researchers and scholars in the various fields related to ontology-engineering. Find your chance to engage with various communities of interest below:

  *
Cognition And OntologieS (CAOS9)
  *
International Workshop on Formal Ontologies Meet Industry (FOMI)
  *
International Workshop on Semantic Web and Ontology Design for Cultural Heritage (SWODCH 2025)
  *
The Ninth Image Schema Day
  *
Integrated Food Ontology Workshop (IFOW)
  *

  *
International Workshop KM4LAW – Knowledge Management and Process Mining for Law
  *
International Workshop on Modeling for Cybersecurity (Semantic Shields 2)
  *
Workshop on the Convergence of Large Language Models and Ontologies

Last, but not least we would like to remind you of the FOIS 2025 main track call for papers. Deadlines are dreadful, and they are always nearer than you think. So too does the deadline for the FOIS 2025 main track approach quickly. You have 1.5 months left to submit your work. However, don’t let the small spike of panic we maliciously invoked in you discourage you to submit your work to the FOIS 2025 main track. Instead, consider why you want to submit here. You will get the opportunity to show off your work in the brightest of spotlights, engage with the various researchers, scientists, scholars, philosophers, pizza and wine enthusiasts, engineers, and more that make up the community, and end each day with a sunset in beautiful Sicily. This is not just fun or part of the job, it is incredibly meaningful. By submitting a paper and attending the conference, you create meaning by creating memories, and we hope you feel motivated to pioneer with us.
