# Special Session on Adaptive Data Management meets Self-Adaptive
Systems (EDDY)
With the ongoing shift to a data-driven world in almost all application
domains, the management and interpretation/analytics of large amounts of
data gain in importance. Moreover, an increasingly important requirement
for data management systems is the ability to self-manage by adapting at
runtime (1) to react on changing workload and data characteristics or
(2) to balance performance and energy-efficiency constraints. Generally,
the topic of self-adaptive and self-managing systems has been studied in
a variety of applications areas, including autonomic computing,
robotics, control systems, and software architectures. The purpose of
this special session is to foster the collaboration between disciplines.
This special session is the ideal venue for discussing what can be
shared in terms of experience, concepts, techniques, modelling
paradigms, and to identify new directions.
