The Computational Intelligence group at the VU University Amsterdam is 
looking for a Junior Researcher within the EU FP7 funded E-COMPARED 
project. The project targets the development and evaluation of advanced 
mobile health interventions for depression in various European 
countries. The main task of the Computational Intelligence group at the 
VU University Amsterdam is to develop techniques to generate predictive 
models that could aid caretakers in selecting suitable treatments for 
depressed patients as well as facilitate automated interventions. The 
project is a collaboration between Psychological and more technically 
oriented partners.

/.  contribute to the development of computational intelligence 
techniques to generate predictive models and apply these techniques in 
the aforementioned E-COMPARED project.
.  contribute to the development of an intelligent mobile system to 
treat depressed patients.
.  publish the results of the research on high quality scientific 
conferences and journals.

/. Aid tenured staff members in courses related to Computational 
Intelligence.

*Requirements*

.  English language proficiency.
.  research Master degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science 
or related field.
.  proven experience in the domain of Computational Intelligence 
(Machine Learning, Data Mining).
.  affinity with the domain of e-Health.

The appointment will be for a period of 3 years. We aim at a high 
scientific productivity with the accompanying publications (which can 
act as a good start of a PhD thesis). Possible extension of the 
appointment to write a complete PhD thesis can be discussed but will 
depend on the availability of funding at that time.

Life Sciences, will be facing the challenge of how to further flesh out 
cooperation between VU University Amsterdam's science faculties and 
those of the University of Amsterdam.

The VUA Department of Computer Science has approximately 170 members, 
including 35 tenured staff members and 40-50 PhD students. We are 
currently embarking on an ambitious collaboration with the UvA 
Informatics Institute. This will result in the largest conglomeration of 
computer science research in The Netherlands, and one of the largest in 
Europe.

Most of the research is embedded in the Network Institute of VU 
University, and the Center for Creation, Content and Technology (CCCT) 
of the UvA, covering disciplines such as Social sciences, Humanities, 
and Economics. The department explicitly encourages inter- and 
crossdisciplinary research, and expects from successful candidates a 
willingness to collaborate with colleagues in other fields of Computer 
Science, as well as with colleagues from other disciplines such as those 
participating in the Network Institute and CCCT.

*Salary*

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for 
academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of 
EUR 2.427,- gross per month up to a maximum of EUR 3.037,- gross per 
month (salary scale 10) based on a fulltime employment.
