        Call for Tutorials, Workshops, Posters, Demonstrations
                2nd European Semantic Web Conference
                       May 29 to June 1, 2005

The vision of the Semantic Web is to enhance today's web via the 
exploitation of machine-processable meta data. The explicit 
representation of the semantics of data, accompanied with domain 
theories (Ontologies), will enable a web that provides a 
qualitatively new level of service. It will weave together an 
incredibly large network of human knowledge and will complement it 
with machine processability. Various automated services will help the 
user to achieve goals by accessing and providing information in 
machine-understandable form. This process may ultimately create 
extremely knowledgeable systems with various specialized reasoning 
services systems. Many technologies and methodologies are being 
developed within Artificial Intelligence, Human Language Technology, 
Machine Learning, Databases, Software Engineering and Information 
Systems that can contribute towards the realization of this vision.

The 2nd Annual European Semantic Web Conference will present the 
latest results in research and application in semantic web 
technologies (including knowledge mark-up languages, semantic web 
services, ontology management and more). ESWC 2005 will also feature 
a special industry-oriented event providing European industry with an 
opportunity to become even more familiar with these technologies. It 
will offer a tutorial program to get up to speed with European and 
global developments in this exciting new area.

ESWC 2005 is co-located with a meeting of the Knowledge Web Network 
of Excellence. Workshops and meetings of other European Commission 
6th Framework Programme projects involved in the semantic web and 
semantic web technologies will be able to showcase their developments.

ESWC 2005 is hosted by SDK - a group of three European Commission 6th 
Framework Programme projects known as SEKT, DIP and Knowledge Web. 
Together these projects aim to improve world-wide research and 
standardisation in the area of the Semantic Web. For more information

CALL FOR TUTORIALS
------------------

ESWC 2005 invites proposals for half-day tutorials for the Tutorial 
Program. Tutorials will be held May 29, immediately prior to the 
technical conference. Tutorials should explain a topic of interest to 
a large part of the Semantic Web community. Tutorials are not 
intended to advocate a single line of research or to promote a 
product. Instead, tutorials should cover well established research in 
a balanced and objective way.

A tutorial proposal should have a length of around 5 pages and 
include the description, outline and motivation of the tutorial, 
including why the topic is relevant for a substantial part of the 
ESWC audience,  the target audience, its benefit in attending the 
tutorial, and a brief resume of the presenters including teaching and 
tutorial experience. It should be sent by email in PDF format by 
December 1st 2004 to the tutorial chair.

CALL FOR WORKSHOPS

ESWC 2005 invites proposals for the Workshop Program. Workshop should 
offer an interactive forum for discussing in-depth not fully 
established topics. They typically concern a reduced but dynamic 
audience that is active in the topic of the workshop. This topic 
should be related to those of the main conference.

A workshop proposal should have a length of around 5 pages and 
include motivation (why will the workshop successful), objectives, 
envisioned program structure, topics of interest,  previously 
organized workshops, preliminary program committee, list of potential 
attendees, organizing committee with detailed contact information and 
short vitæ. It should be sent by email in PDF format by December 1st 
2004 to the workshop chair.

CALL FOR POSTERS
----------------

Besides the scientific and industrial paper track, ESWC asks for 
poster contributions that will be presented in a special session 
during the conference. We are looking for contributions whose nature 
make them less suited for submission to the official paper track. We 
would like to emphasize this point and make clear that the poster 
session is more than a second chance for a rejected paper. In 
particular, we ask for contributions such as:
- Late-breaking and Speculative Results;
- Systems and Infrastructure descriptions
- Projects and Initiatives.

CALL FOR DEMONSTRATIONS

ESWC 2005 will feature a demonstration program in which selected 
proposals will be presented live. Short papers presenting  the 
demonstrated system,  features illustrated and demonstration set-up 
should be sent to the demonstration chair.
