DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
PRELIMINARY JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
VACANCIES FOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS
&
DISTRIBUTED MULTIMEDIA AND REAL-TIME SYSTEMS
The Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus intends
to officially announce shortly (within the next three months) a number
of new positions for Research Associates within the research projects
BETSY ("BEing on Time Saves EnergY") and MADAM (Mobility and
ADaptation enAbling Middleware"), to be funded by IST of FP6.
The positions are initially for one (1) year renewable annually up to
the end of the projects (each project will run for a total of 30
months). The annual salary for a Research Associate starts at the A8
scale (about CY # 9,000 initially, but the exact amount will depend on
qualifications and prior experience). [At present CY #1 = 1.7 EUROs
and CY #1 = 2 US dollars, approximately.]
Project BETSY will develop the required infrastructure needed by
handheld devices to support continuous multimedia streaming. Project
MADAM will provide software engineers with the required modelling
language extensions, tools and middleware for the development of
innovative mobile-based applications.
A suitable candidate for the above positions should have a first
degree in Computer Science and, preferably, also a sufficiently
specialised postgraduare degree. S/He should also be at ease with
programming in large scale software projects. The specialisation areas
for the first project are: real-time systems, embedded systems, QoS
requirements, multimedia systems; and for the second project are:
middleware platforms, mobile computing, MDA (model-driven
architectures).
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Knowledge
of the Greek language, although considered a practical advantage, is
by no means a requirement. The research activities pursued by the
successful applicants can lead to the earning of a Ph.D. if they so
wish (in this case, any academic fees for enroling to the Department's
Ph.D. programme are waived). Due to the involvement of the successful
candidates in using cutting edge technologies, these posts are also
suitable for a post doc.
Anyone interested in these forthcoming vacancies and planning to apply
when they are formally announced, is kindly asked to contact us
(preferably electronically) as soon as possible at the address below
and provide us with a CV together with a short description of their
research interests and background. Submitted documents may be written
in Greek and/or English. Please send all relevant information to
