The L3S Research Center is offering a PhD Researcher position in
collaboration with Petanux GmBH, in the areas of Machine Learning,
Data Mining, Semantic Technologies and Natural Language
Processing. This position offers a unique interdisciplinary and
cross-sectoral research and training programme, which will explore
how we can begin to analyse and understand the major events that
influence and shape our lives and our societies. It will
facilitate advanced cross-lingual processing of textual and visual
information related to key contemporary events at scale, and will
develop innovative methods for efficient and intuitive user access
to and interaction with multilingual information.<br>

A successful candidate will have a strong computer science
background (outstanding MSc degree in Computer Science or related
discipline) and solid practical experience in software
development. Familiarity with semantic technologies, HCI, NLP,
Information Extraction and Machine Learning is of advantage. Good
proficiency in English is expected; knowledge of further European
languages is helpful. International experience during your studies
or afterwards as well as good social and communication skills are
helpful. As a successful candidate, you will:<br>
- conduct research at the L3S Research Center/Petanux GmbH<br>
- be involved in writing research and project proposals<br>
- be expected to publish your research results in first class
conferences/journals<br>
- lead and contribute to software development and data analysis
activities<br>

Your research will focus on selected topics in the following
areas:<br>
- Information extraction<br>
- Cross-lingual information alignment<br>
- Interactive access to cross-lingual information<br>
- Question answering and dialog systems<br>
- Large-scale data analytics<br>
- Knowledge graphs and RDF<br>
- Machine Learning<br>
in a challenging and unique research environment.<br>

The position is for three years (36 months) in the form of PhD
scholarship. The scholarship amount is about 1,400 EUR per month.<br>
