Tenured Faculty Position in Computer Science at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

The Faculty of Computer Science at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) invites applications for a Computer Science faculty position (Italian scientific sector INF/01). The tenured position is at the level of full or associate professor and it is starting in the academic year 2014/2015. In addition to the competence areas of the faculty -- namely information and database system engineering, knowledge representation and databases, and software engineering -- the following areas of Computer Science will be preferably considered: human centered computing, image processing and computer graphics, information systems, security and privacy.

The appointment will be made as a "direct call". Candidates who already hold an equivalent academic position at a foreign university are entitled to submit an expression of interest. Pay will be commensurate to the scientific merits of the candidate and will range between 98,000 and 140,000 Euro gross for full professors and between 70,000 and 100,000 Euro gross for associate professors. Re-location benefits and start-up budget are also offered.

Candidates should have a strong research background, as the Faculty of Computer Science puts a strong emphasis on foundational and applied research, on experience in the development of scalable systems, and on the co-operation with national and international research institutions and companies. The Faculty of Computer Science has been ranked second for the quality of research in Mathematics and Computer Science among Italian universities. Candidates should also be committed to teaching excellence. They are expected to teach both introductory and advanced courses in Computer Science, and they will be involved in PhD student supervision -- as each year the university funds several scholarships for the PhD program in Computer Science. Management skills and a strong record of project funding from companies and other public and private organizations are desirable.

While the teaching language for the Computer Science courses is English, knowledge of two of the three teaching languages (German, Italian and English) at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is expected as it is essential for academic and everyday life.

The outstanding feature of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is its trilingual approach to teaching and research and its international ambience. With 5 faculties, 18 Bachelor, Master and PhD programs and 3000 students, this young independent university acts as a bridge between the German and Italian cultural and economic areas. Most of the teaching staff have an international professional background. The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is committed to increasing the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore explicitly encourages women to submit their expressions of interest.

With its almost 100,000 inhabitants, Bozen-Bolzano, as the capital of the province of Alto Adige-South Tirol, is a multilingual business and tourist center located in a beautiful setting in the Dolomite Alps.

Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae including research, teaching, and organizational records, a cover letter with the specification of the position they are applying for (associate or full professor), and three references (optionally with letters of reference already included) to the contacts listed below.

Expressions of interest will be considered from now until January 31st 2015 and primary consideration will be given to applications received by December 31st 2014. Applications received in reply to this call will also be considered for future positions, to be opened already starting early 2015.
