[DL] (Post-)Doctoral Position for the Development of a Graph-based, Parallel Reasoning System in the Project GraphScale

The Institute of Artificial Intelligence of the Faculty of Engineering
and Computer Science of the University of Ulm is seeking applications
for a

Postdoctoral Researcher/Doctoral Research Assistant
(Computer Science, 13 TV-L)

Subject to the final approval, the position is available from 1. July
2012 and is limited to 26 month.

The successful candidate will be associated with the Institute of
Artificial Intelligence and will work on the project GraphScale. The
project is carried out in collaboration with the derivo GmbH within
the KMU- innovativ programme of the BMBF. The goal of the GraphScale
project is the development of a reasoning system that is based on a
graph database. The reasoning algorithms are expected to cover
Semantic Web Standards, e.g., the OWL RL profile.

Tasks:
* Adoption and optimisation of reasoning calculi for parallel
processing of data in second-level storage
* Implementation of a prototype in collaboration with the derivo GmbH
* Preparation of publications and presentations

The position can be used for further scientific qualification (PhD or
habilitation).

Requirements:
* Candidates must have a degree in computer science, mathematics or a
related field (diploma, MSc or PhD)
* Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
* Knowledge of German is an advantage
* Good programming skills (e.g., in Java)
* Some experience with Semantic Web technologies such as OWL, RDFS or SPARQL
* Ideally, the candidate has some knowledge of reasoning algorithms for OWL
* Ideally, the candidate has some knowledge database management
systems and possibly graph databases
