                  Invitation to the ICFCA 2003:
First International Conference on Formal Concept Analysis

held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of founding the
   "ERNSTSCHRÖDERZENTRUM für Begriffliche Wissensverarbeitung e.V."
                        organized by the
fz°bw - Research Center for Conceptual Knowledge Processing
             at Darmstadt University of Technology,
                  Hauptgebäude, Hochschulstr.1,
                  Room 223 (Ernst-Schröder-Saal)

             Beginning: February 27, 2003, 9 a.m.
             Ending: March 1, 2003, 5 p.m.

Formal Concept Analysis arose around 1980 out of attempts of
restructuring lattice theory to promote better communication
between lattice theorists and potential users of lattice
theory. Since then Formal Concept Analysis has been increasingly
developed as a strong field of research stimulated by a broad
spectrum of applications. Today researchers from all over the
world contribute to Formal Concept Analysis and apply methods and
results of Formal Concept Analysis. Therefore it is time for a
first international conference on Formal Concept Analysis on which
the state of the art of this promising field of research and
application can be presented. Since the "ERNSTSCHRÖDERZENTRUM für
Begriffliche Wissensverarbeitung e.V." is the institution which
has mostly supported the recent development of Formal Concept
Analysis, the dates for the first international conference on
Formal Concept Analysis has been chosen to include the 10th
birthday of the "ERNSTSCHRÖDERZENTRUM".

The conference is organized by the Darmstadt Research Center for
Conceptual Knowledge Processing (fz°bw). Bernhard Ganter (Dresden),
Gerd Stumme (Karlsruhe) and Rudolf Wille (Darmstadt) are
responsible for the scientific program of the conference. They are
also editors of a volume "Formal Concept Analysis: The State of the
Art" which is supposed to be published after the conference by
Springer. Whoever is interested in the conference is cordially
invited to actively participate in the conference. It is planned to
reserve enough time for discussion and exchange of information
during the conference.
